Public meetings planned for impact of new site of VA Hospital
The key objection neighbors say makes the project unwelcome in their east Louisville neighborhood.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Public meetings are planned on Tuesday to discuss the site chosen for the new Veterans Administration Hospital in east Louisville.
The 36-acre site is in a busy area near Brownsboro Road and the Watterson Expressway. The meetings will focus on a "Draft Environmental Impact Study" released earlier this month. The study found there would be little impact to air and water quality. But it found that building the VA facility would impact traffic in an already busy area.
Neighbors have been very vocal about their concerns, saying that adding hundreds of cars to the area every day would be bad news. Plus, the study projects that there will be a significant increase in patients in the coming years.
The draft not only looks at the Brownsboro Road site, it also assesses the current Zorn Avenue site, and another possible site on Factory Lane, which is no longer for sale.
The meetings are Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist Church at 4614 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, 40207.
