LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana State Police say three Jeffersonville men have been arrested in connection with theft charges.

According to a news release, 18-year-old Andrew Caldwell, 19-year-old Jacob H. James and 20-year-old Robert Volpert Jr. were arrested Wednesday.

Authorities say state troopers were patrolling along I-265 east, near the 10 mile marker in Clark County, checking construction areas and equipment due to reports of recent thefts that had been reported by construction workers.

Officials say officers encountered two men walking along the shoulder of the road.

Investigators say while speaking to the two men, "officers noticed a third male subject trying to scale a nearby fence in an obvious attempt to get away from the troopers."

Police stopped the man and all three suspects were detained.

Authorities say during the investigation, troopers found several items of alleged stolen property that had been taken shortly before troopers stopped the three suspects.

Officials say the suspected stolen property was identified by victims as items that had been left inside vehicles.

James,is charged with theft, criminal conversion and false informing. Caldwell and Volpert are charged with criminal conversion and theft. Jail records show Caldwell was released from the Clark County Jail Wednesday morning. James and Volpert were still held in the jail Wednesday evening.
