Recanvasses confirm Johnson, Cantrell as winners of House seats in Kentucky districts
The tallies of two vote recanvasses for Kentucky House races are in -- and the results remain unchanged.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The tallies of two vote recanvasses for Kentucky House races are in -- and the results remain unchanged.
Republican Dan Johnson has been confirmed as the winner of the House of Representatives seat in the 49th District, even as Democrat McKenzie Cantrell was confirmed as the winner of the 38th District seat.
Democrat Linda Belcher requested the recanvass in the 49th District after losing to Johnson by 156 votes out of the 18,500 votes cast. Louisville Republican Denny Butler lost the 38th District seat to Cantrell by fewer than 300 of the nearly 15,000 votes cast, and also requested a recanvass.
In the weeks leading up to the election, Johnson was criticized for a number of images posted or shared on his Facebook page, including a photo of a chimpanzee -- labeled as a baby picture of President Barack Obama -- and another image with ape-like features photo-shopped onto pictures of the Obama family.
Johnson said the Facebook posts were "entertainment."
