Finish line Friday!  The celebration today to mark the end of downtown bridge construction

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After decades of planning and more than three years of construction, we're crossing the finish line for Downtown Crossing work.

The public is invited to a free "Finish Line" celebration at 3 p.m. at Waterfront Park on Friday to mark the end of the downtown bridge project. Project milestones include the opening of a new Louisville interchange and 12 travel lanes on two interstate bridges.

Drivers are seeing an end to interstate and ramp closures, as well.  But some work will continue, so there will be occasional lane and ramp closures.

There's no exact date yet for when he'll have to pay the cost to cross. Drivers will get about a two weeks of advanced notice, but it will begin sometime in December, and it's possible you'll have to pay to cross downtown before the east end.

Walsh Construction is looking at about a $1 million from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for finishing early.
