Louisville organization aims to help warm the homeless this winter

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As the cold winter months approach, one organization aims to help warm the homeless.

That's the goal of Blanket Louisville.

Over the last month, organizers say schools, businesses, and hospitals have collected about 5,000 new and gently used blankets.

Saturday, volunteers brought those blankets to area homeless shelters and other organizations.

"Really the underlying reason for this organization is to let all these people who are homeless or less fortunate in this community know that their lives matter. And that we care about not only warming their bodies but also warming their hearts," said Kathy Fehder, director of Blanket Louisville.

Blanket Louisville expects to collect an additional 5,000 blankets in the next month.
