LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police detectives are continuing to investigate after the father of a missing Bardstown mother was shot and killed while hunting early Saturday.

Tommy Ballard, 54, was shot in the chest around 8 a.m. on Nov. 19 while hunting with his son and 12-year-old grandson on the family's property along Ed Brent Lane near the Blue Grass Parkway.

An autopsy determined that the bullet entered Ballard's chest and exited through his back.

According to  news release, police do not believe Ballard's grandson was involved in his grandfather's death.

Now detectives are hoping to speak to anyone who may have been traveling on Bluegrass Parkway Saturday morning between the hours of 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. eastern time, in the area of the 21-25 mile marker, that may have observed any persons or vehicles on the roadway.

Tommy's daughter Crystal Rogers was last seen in July 2015. The 35-year-old mother of five's car was found abandoned on the side of the Bluegrass Parkway.

Since her disappearance, Crystal's parents have been involved in countless searches for her.

According to Tommy Ballard's father, Till Ballard, Tommy was planning a large-scale, out-of-town search this week.
