LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a Memphis, Indiana man after authorities say he choked a woman.

Jacob Coons, 28, was arrested Friday. According to a release from the Clark County Sheriff's Office, police were sent to the 12000 block of Highway 60 on a 911 call.

When officers arrived, they found a burning barrel and were told by the victim that it contained her clothing and had allegedly been set on fire by Coons.

Authorities say officers found Coons and he stated that he had choked the victim "to the point she has passed out and was inside the residence unconscious."

Police say the victim stated she and Coons had been arguing when he became upset and allegedly began choking the victim.

Authorities say the victim tried to call 911, but Coons took away the phone.

Officials say the victim claimed she tried to fight Coons off, but was unable to do so, due to having been choked.

Coons is charged with domestic battery, strangulation and interference with reporting a crime.
