LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Matthews Police have arrested a Louisville man after authorities say he stole several thousand dollars worth of clothing from a department store.

Stephen Hogue, 57, was arrested on Nov. 21, according to police.

Police say on Nov. 12, Hogue parked his truck outside the entrance to the Men's Dillard's store, located at 5000 Shelbyville Road. Authorities say he was "banned from Dillard's for prior shoplifting incidents."

According to police, Hogue allegedly walked into the store and grabbed a large armful of men's suits and slacks, then ran out of the store, jumped into his pickup truck and drove away.

Store security employees were unable to catch Hogue, but authorities were able to obtain his license plate. The incident was also recorded on the store's security cameras.

Officials say the clothing that was stolen on Nov. 12 had a value of more than $8,000. Police say the clothing that was taken on Nov. 12 has not been recovered.

Investigators say Hogue then stole more clothes on Nov. 21, and he was arrested by an off-duty St. Matthews Police officer, who was working security at Dillard's, as he attempted to flee the scene.

Hogue is charged with shoplifting. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
