JEFFERSONVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jeffersonville Fire Department confirms a worker has died after a fall at a construction site.

It happened Tuesday afternoon around 2 p.m. at River Ridge off IN 62 in Jeffersonville.

Chinco Ortega, 33, fell about 50 feet from a ladder at the site, according to Jeff Dickson with the Clark County Coroner's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed on Ortega's body Wednesday morning. Officials say the preliminary cause of death was multiple system blunt force trauma.

Authorities say toxicology results are pending, and a final determination of death will be released when the toxicology results come back.

Officials with the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration have released the following statement:

Once a fatality is reported, IOSHA immediately assigns a Compliance Safety and Health Officer (CSHO) to investigate. Once assigned, the CSHO arrives on-site and conducts an opening conference with the employer. If needed, photographic evidence is taken. The CSHO then conducts interviews with company management, employees, contractors, witnesses, etc. Employee interviews are conducted privately and independently from one another.

Because investigations are comprehensive, they can last from several weeks to several months. By law, IOSHA has six months from the date of the incident to complete its investigation.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
