LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The 36th year for Light Up Louisville saw big crowds Friday night.

The annual parade weaved it's way through downtown as spectators, some who have come for decades, filled the route.

One woman says she made the trip for the first time this year to see what all the fun was about.

"I think it's great. Especially great for the kids," said Beth Vessels, who was visiting from Elizabethtown. "Even as an adult, I'm enjoying it, but it's just nice for the community to be able to come together and enjoy something."

Throughout the night, the lights, the tree and the man himself, Santa Claus, entertained the people.

Old St. Nick road in on his sleigh and walked up to the stage to speak to the crowd. The night ended with the lighting of the tree and a fireworks display that mesmerized crowds, especially those who love coming back every year.

"It's just beautiful each year," Sheila Seadler said. "Each year it's different, but it's a great thing for our community, and we all enjoy coming together for beautiful things and to enjoy the spirit of family and friendship ... It's just a wonderful time for everybody."
