LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — When Howard Schnellenberger and Bill Curry worked out the deal for the Louisville-Kentucky football series to launch in 1994, one goal was firm:

Upgrade the quality of college and high school football in the state.

There are dozens of ways to judge that. This is one:

How many former Kentucky high school football players will start in the game the teams will play at noon Saturday at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium?

If you guessed 6 of 48 (or 12.5 percent), you win the office pool.

According to the depth charts in the press box at PJCS Saturday morning, each team will start three former Kentucky prep players.

For Louisville, the three are receivers Reggie Bonnafon and James Quick as well as center Tobijah Hughley.

For Kentucky, the three are receiver Ryan Timmons, offensive tackle Cole Mosier and defensive lineman Adrian Middleton.

The leader — Florida. You’ll find a dozen Florida products with the Cards and six with Kentucky. That’s nearly 38 percent of the starting lineups.

Second is Ohio with seven players, six on Kentucky.

The list features 48 players because both teams name 24 starters. Here is the list:

Florida — 18 (12 U of L, 6, UK).

Ohio — 7 (1 U of L, 6 UK).

Kentucky — 6 (3 U of L, 3 UK).

Georgia — 4 (2 U of L, 2 UK).
