Kentucky transportation officials release details of state's winter weather plan

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials are getting ready to battle winter weather.

They presented their plan Monday to combat snow and ice events this winter.

More than 2,000 people are ready to man almost 1,000 trucks, with 430,000 tons of salt and more than 1 million gallons of brine, a salt-and-water solution.

Transportation officials also introduced what they are calling a "Strike Force."

"We have got eight trucks that are ready for snow and ice and will be sitting in our maintenance equipment garage in Frankfort with drivers that are ready to go anytime we have a major event," said Patty Dunaway, a state highway engineer.

"We are ready," said Secretary Greg Thomas of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. "The salt is in the barn. Our crews are trained and ready to respond."

There is a new website where officials will be updating Kentuckians on weather events.
