Gulf Shores bans alcohol during Spring Break

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Gulf Shores is banning alcohol during Spring Break.

The city voted Monday night to impose a ban on booze at the beach.

Officials say the city was overwhelmed with out-of-control college students last year and wound up banning alcohol two weeks into the Spring Break season.

This time, officials say they're being pro-active by banning alcohol early.

"I hope people get the message that we're not trying to keep you away, we just want to make sure that things are nice and calm and we're not going to become the party city for college kids," said Orange Beach City Administrator Ken Grimes.

The booze ban goes into effect March 4 and will expire April 16.
