LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Boyle County, Kentucky, man is under arrest for charges related to child pornography.

According to a news release from Kentucky State Police, 44-year-old Gene P. Pendygraft was arrested Tuesday. Authorities say he is facing charges "related to distribution and possession of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor."

Officials arrested Pendygraft after an undercover investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.

Police say an investigation was started by the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch after Pendygraft was allegedly found sharing images of child sexual exploitation online.

Police obtained a search warrant for a residence in Junction City following the investigation.

Officials say equipment used in the alleged crime was taken to a forensic lab for examination.

Pendygraft is charged with one count of distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor and nine counts related to distribution and possession of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities say each charge carries a possible penalty of one to five years in prison. According to police, additional charges are expected to be brought against Pendygraft.

He is being held at the Boyle County Detention Center.
