LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a student at Moore Traditional High School Wednesday morning after she assaulted a staff member.

It happened just after 7:30 a.m. at the school, which is located at 6415 Outer Loop, near Smyrna Road.

Police say 18-year-old Brieona Hammond got into a fight with another student -- and staff members had to separate them.

That's when, police say, Hammond shoved a staff member in the chest. Police say she did it in an effort to get to the other student.

According to JCPS records, the staff member who was allegedly assaulted is a social studies teacher at the school.

Hammond was arrested at the scene and charged with third degree assault of a school employee or volunteer. She is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
