2 suspects arrested for reportedly burglarizing home of dead man

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD says they've arrested two people accused of stealing from the dead.

"He had a lot of nice things, and what he had, he did take care of," said Pamela Smith, whose father's home was burglarized.

Just days after her father's death in mid-November, Smith said someone burglarized his home in south Louisville.

"Inside the house was trashed," she said.

Smith said a Facebook post led to some painful memories and the suspects.

"We are in this kind of like a yard sale group on Facebook."

Smith said a post including a leaf blower raised a red flag.

"After the leaf blower was on there, they started posting all of his stuff, the generator, the jump box, his shoes ... all of the other items."

"The suspect posted that she was going to have a big sale in the next couple of days, and that's when she posted most of the victim's property on Facebook," Det. Kevin Peak said.

Det. Peak with LMPD's 4th Division knew it was a long shot, but he called the number on the Facebook post and posed as a potential buyer.

"She gave me her address, where she was at ... went over there and everything, everything that was taken in the burglary was at the home."

Det. Peak said that's when he told the suspects instead of making a sale, they were going to jail.

"I let her know that we were the police, and the generator was taken during a burglary."

Police arrested Tammy Ernspiker and Dominick Didonato.

Smith wants her father's things back and believes a post about a guilty conscience is nothing more than sarcasm.

"If you know the man is dead, and you go steal his belongings, you're not sorry," she said.

Police are looking for at least one more suspect in the case.
