LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A town hall meeting will be held Thursday night to discuss moving the VA Hospital to West Louisville.

The town hall meeting is at 6:00 p.m. at Ray Barker Economic Center on S. 15th Street.

Some Metro Council members will speak at the meeting.

The VA already spent $13 million to buy land off Brownsboro Road near the Watterson to move the hospital there.

But other sites have been suggested, like Ninth Street in the Russell Neighborhood. That's the same site where plans to build a Walmart and food port failed.

In October, the VA took the step of holding public meetings on its draft environmental impact report. It's now seeking public comments on the report, which addresses the hospital's impact on the Brownsboro Road area.

If the project moves forward, construction should begin in late-2018. The VA will likely make a final decision in February 2017.
