LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person is dead after a shooting Thursday afternoon in the Algonquin neighborhood.

Officers driving through the area discovered the man’s body lying in the street before it was called in to 911.

It happened around 3 p.m. near 12th and Hill Streets.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crime scenes are becoming more common as the city of Louisville struggles with a record level of fatal shooting.

“It’s disheartening for the community. Particularly those people who are being directly affected by this violence. It’s, needless to say, very taxing for our people to have to come out here day after day, night after night,” LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley said.

A woman who happened to be in the area watched as police looked for clues. She lost her son to gun violence three decades ago and is calling on the community to put a stop to the shootings.

“It doesn’t make any sense -- all this killing," Patricia Merriweather said. "You need to put your guns down. You need to learn how to love one another."
