Donated Christmas auction items to benefit kids stolen out of Louisville garage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Donated items were stolen from a man's southwest Louisville garage right before a Christmas charity auction.
Jeremy Alvey could not believe that in the middle of the night while he was sleeping, he had been taken.
"It's just heart-wrenching that someone would do this right here at the holidays," Alvey said.
Thieves slid something under his garage door to trip the infrared beam and snuck in. He says they got off with bayonet army knives, designer watches, a $400 ice fishing tent, a gazebo and more.
"It had to take at least two people to do what they did," Alvey said.
The items were for a charity auction to benefit local kids this Christmas.
"Families walk in and say, 'we can't do Christmas this year, we just don't have the money,'" said Brenda Mattingly, Executive Director of Southwest Communities Ministries.
Southwest Community Ministries helps families throughout the year. One way it does so is by partnering with businesses like Lone Wolf Family Pub, which Alvey owns.
"They have been great. The last time they did 66 children for us," Mattingly said. "They are children who wouldn't have had a Christmas without this."
The stolen items would have been auctioned off. Lone Wolf and the Louisville Poker Tour match the money made and buy gifts for the children in need.
"We've already promised Christmas to these children," Mattingly said. "We've got to make sure it comes through. It is heartbreaking."
Now they are left scrambling to fulfill Christmas.
"It's hurt me a little bit, but it also drives me to make sure the event happens," Alvey said.
A Christmas party for the kids is at Lone Wolf Family Pub on Dec. 17. A Christmas tree will be set up and Santa will be there to pass out gifts to the kids.
