LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- December 2nd is National Mutt Day, also known as National Mixed Breed Day.

National Mutt Day is actually celebrated twice a year -- on July 31st and December 2nd.

The day was created to raise awareness for mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation.

About 80% of dogs in shelters are mixed breeds, according to the NHS.
