LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person is dead after a shooting Friday afternoon in the Russell neighborhood.
LMPD responded to the scene just after 4 p.m. at the corner of Fisk Court and Wilberforce Court near the Beecher Terrace Housing Complex.
They found a black male at the scene lying on the sidewalk. He has been identified as 27-year-old Wilson Burton.
Anthony Murida was visiting his sister in Beecher Terrace when he found himself caught in the middle the scene.
"I heard some gunshots ... and I seen a body laying over there," Murida said. ""I tried to check for a pulse he had a faint pulse ... He was fighting for his life, and I was trying to help him."
But it was too late. Burton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Burton's sister, Lashawn Mullins, is demanding to know what happened and why.
"I'm asking and I'm begging for my family, and for the life of my brother, 'cause he was my baby brother, if you know anything, I don't care what it is, the simplest little bitty thing, please tell somebody so we can bury him at peace," Mullins said.
"We're talking about families losing people," LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley said. "We're talking about a community losing a generation."
LMPD's Homicide Unit is investigating, knocking on doors in the area to look for any information.
This is Jefferson County's 116th criminal homicide of 2016.
There are no suspects, as of now. If you have any information in this case, you're asked to call 574-LMPD.
