Purposeful Purses creates care packages for women in need

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Filling purses to help women in need.

Volunteers with Purposeful Purses packed dozens of gently used handbags Saturday, creating care packages with feminine hygiene products.

That includes toothbrushes, toothpaste and socks.

The purses will then be given to homeless women, refugees, and victims of human trafficking in Louisville.

"A lot of homeless shelters only cater to men and children and not those specific female needs that we have so I thought using purses and giving them something that could be their own and they can keep with them is an idea that isn't going to stop homelessness, but it makes them happy even if it's just for a couple minutes," Purposeful Purses Founder Claire Butler said.

Butler says she's in the process of trying to expand outside of this area.
