LMPD forum emphasizes community involvement to solve city's violence problem

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD says cracking Louisville's unsolved murders will take more than just good police work.

It'll take community involvement.

Officers drove that message home during Wednesday night's "21st Century Policing" forum.

Chief Steve Conrad told the group that only about half of the city's murders this year have been solved.

The department hopes these forums will help foster trust and more leads.

"One aspect of the meeting is letting people know that our doors are always open for criticism, for input, for suggestions," said Maj. Frank Hardison, a commander in LMPD's 3rd Division.

According to Chief Conrad, as of Monday, 478 people have been shot in Louisville this year.
