LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A judge says he will not throw out the guilty plea and life sentence for a man convicted of killing a Marion County sheriff's deputy four years ago.

However, 53-year-old Dewayne Shipp will get a new appointed attorney to help in any further challenges.

The decision came after a hearing Thursday morning.

In 2014, Shipp pleaded guilty to shooting Deputy Anthony Rakes during a traffic stop near Lebanon, Kentucky.

Earlier this year, in a handwritten motion to the judge, Shipp claimed his attorney did not pursue all the defenses available before his guilty plea.
