Mile Wide Beer Co. opens in Phoenix Hill with 5 beers on tap

Posted: Updated:

A brand new Louisville brewery opened in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood on Friday.

Mile Wide Beer Co. is at 636 Barret Avenue off of Broadway. The space once housed Sanctuary and a live music venue for Jillian’s. The name "Mile Wide" is a nod to the Ohio River at its widest point.

There are five different beers on tap:

  • White Ale - Belgian-Style Witbier
  • Wooderson - Mesquite Smoked Blonde Ale
  • Good Evening, Miss - English-Style Mile Ale
  • Uncle Disheveled - Coffee Stout (collaboration with Highland Coffee)
  • Catalina Breeze - West Coast Scavenger (with Simcoe & Citra)

Head brewer Kyle Tavares says attention to detail and consistency are what sets his beer apart.

"Sometimes with smaller breweries, consistency is a problem,” Tavares said. “We want to focus on making great beers at a high quality on a relatively small scale. So if you get Uncle Disheveled today, and you come back six months from now, it's going to be the same beer.”

Co-founders Tavares, Matt Landon, Scott Shreffler and Patrick Smith have more than two decades of brewing industry experience.
