LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD Chief Steve Conrad was on hand Friday night for a special night for children in the Oakdale neighborhood, who got toys, treats and a visit from Santa.

The LMPD community policing unit paired up with the Oakdale Neighborhood Association for a Christmas party at Semple Elementary.

The officers raised money to buy new toys, and each child got to pick one out and take the gift home.

"Events like this give kids the opportunity to interact with police officers in a non-confrontational, non-threatening environment," Chief Conrad said. "They get to see us a friends."

All families who attended enjoyed a holiday meal.
