LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Christmas came a little early for hundreds of children in Louisville at the 41st annual Christmas Party for Youth, hosted by the First Division Police Auxillary and the Metro Parks and Recreation Department.

Parents lined up and waited in the cold before the doors opened at the Molly Leonard Portland Community Center to get their children a toy for Christmas.

In addition to gifts, kids also received candy, gloves and a toboggan.

When the event first began 41 years ago, eight kids showed up ... this year close to 1,000 were in attendance.

"I think it's really nice of them to get all those toys because they put it to their mind to get all those toys and give it away to people.  It's really nice for people to do that," Cameron Harrison said.

The event also included face painting and a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
