LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Families in the California, Newburg, and Shawnee neighborhoods get early Christmas gifts at the "Take what you can Tote" drive held Saturday.

It's an event where families can fill up their cars with bags of clothes.

Clothing for kids and adults was available at the Clothing Assistance Program Building.

Families could come in and take up to four shopping bags and pack them full of whatever they need.

Organizers say anywhere from one to 2,000 families took part in the event.

"Temps outside are so cold, families are needing warm clothes, and also beyond that a lot of these happen to go home and be wrapped and put under Christmas trees.  For many families this is their opportunity to put a Christmas gift out," Heather Wampler said.

The Clothing Assistance Program also provides new uniforms and clothing to district families throughout the year.
