Torch Run Cops on Doughnut Shops benefit held Saturday for Special Olympics Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The chilly temperatures did not keep people, or police officers, away from a benefit for Special Olympics Kentucky Saturday morning.

The event was held at the Krispy Kreme at Jefferson Commons.

Officers handed out coupons to customers who donated to the Special Olympics.

It's part of the Torch Run Cops on Doughnut shops event.

Organizers say it means a lot to those who participate in the Special Olympics every year.

"I am a regular.  I am up at, like, like 5:30 in the morning coming out here helping them get set up and I am one of the last ones to leave when it's over with," Andre Goatley said.

This is one of several events held throughout the year, including places like Texas Roadhouse and Red Robin.

The other big fundraiser happens the second week in June.
