LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new lab is bringing some of the Louisville's best innovative minds together to solve challenges and make life better for residents.

On Monday, the city and local tech leaders marked the opening of LouieLab, next to the Kentucky Science Center on W. Main Street. The collaboration between citizens, businesses and Metro Government has already come up with a number of solutions, like wireless smoke detectors to know when a fire breaks out in an abandoned home.

"We certainly have tackled very innovative solutions over a weekend or so, but, this will give us that sustained opportunity to be able to work with the innovation advisory council in coming up with those, again, very targeted solutions to solving our citizens' problems," said Grace Simrall, Chief of Innovation for LouieLab.

Metro Government budgeted half a million dollars to make LouieLab a reality.
