POLICE: Pedestrian hit by multiple vehicles during fatal hit-and-run incident near Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police believe a man found dead in the middle of Interstate 64 in Franklin County early Tuesday morning was struck by a driver that left the scene before he was run over by several other vehicles.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton tells WDRB that officers were called to the interstate about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. When they got to the scene, officers found the victim's body on a dark stretch of highway. Police say the victim was hit multiple times, by multiple vehicles.

Franklin County Sheriff, Pat Melton, says the victim was originally hit by a Honda Ridgeline. While the victim was in the roadway, police say he was then run over by several other drivers who likely didn't see him.

It took crews eight hours to collect evidence and process the scene, which spanned about 150 yards.

The victim hasn't been identified yet, and Sheriff Melton says investigators still have lots of questions, like who the man was with, where he came from, and how he got there.

"Right now, we can't rule out any options," Melton said. "Was this person dumped here? Were they walking, why were they on the interstate to begin with? You know, there's a lot of questions and hopefully we'll be able to answer those questions."

Melton says police are looking for a late model Honda passenger car or Honda Ridgeline with what he says is substantial front end damage. Investigators spent the early morning hours scouring nearby exits looking for the vehicle.

No arrests have been made so far, and the case is being investigated as a possible homicide.
