LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters pulled one person from the back of a burning home Wednesday night in west Louisville.
A passerby noticed a home at West Market and North 29th Streets was on fire just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters say the front of the house and the attic were in flames when they arrived. Crews pulled one person out the back of the house, which was filling with smoke.
That person is expected to recover. A spokesperson says fire crews were prepared for the night's cold temperatures.
"We try to keep the water moving in the hoses so it doesn't freeze," said Lt. Col. Terence Delaney with the Louisville Fire Department. "We do have a rehab unit for when we're going to be out for an extended period of time so people can get warmed up inside there. We rotate crews out pretty frequently."
It took 20 firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. They believe it started on the porch but are not yet sure what caused the fire.
