WDRB delivers toys to children at the Home of the Innocents

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Children at the Home of the Innocents are getting an early Christmas thanks to WDRB viewers.

WDRB's Sterling Riggs, Candyce Clifft  and the WDRB Snow Fox hand-delivered more than 1,500 toys Friday morning to deserving children, some of whom had medical, developmental and physical disabilities. It was part of the station's 'Tis Better to Give Toy Drive. WDRB partnered with several local businesses to make the event happen.

"Some of the kids that we have here don't react verbally, but you can see it on their faces and when they smile," said Meredith Pack, of the Home of the Innocents. "You can see it in their eyes that they are excited to see Snow Fox and get a special present."

8-year-old Regena Thompson says was so excited to see Snow Fox.

"I've never met a Snow Fox," she said.

"It's just important to reach out of your own circle," Clyfft said. "The holiday is about gifts. It's about love and this is how you do it. Sometimes it's not just your family, it's other people too."

People donated toys of all sizes.

"Doesn't everyone want to be loved and everyone want to be cared for?" Riggs said. "This time of year focuses on giving back to others -- and a lot of people in our area were very generous and allowed us the opportunity to hand-deliver these toys to these children."

"It shows they are loved, people care about them, people want them to have fun," Clyfft added. "They are like any other children. They light up when they get a gift. These toys are also used frequently in therapy as incentives. It's something to work for and these children work really hard."

"Merry Christmas for all of the children in the world," Thompson said. "Thank you!"

Through the generosity of our viewers, WDRB has collected around 4,500 toys in the last four years.
