City unveils 'Global Louisville Action Plan' to grow workforce

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville has a new plan to grow its workforce by attracting people from all over the world.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Greater Louisville, Inc. unveiled the Global Louisville Action Plan on Friday. The plan outlines ways to attract and retain immigrants to the area -- including more educational, career development and community engagement resources.

"We're very much about talent attraction," said Kent Oyler, president and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. "We need qualified individuals to fill open positions in our community. A lot of them are going to come from foreign-born individuals who come to our community to fill jobs we have here. And they're not taking jobs from people here. These are positions we have open, where we need their talent and experience."

By 2040, the foreign-born population of Louisville is expected to be about 172,000.
