LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The holiday season can be a stressful time for people and their pets.

That was the message behind Saturday morning's Santa Paws Dog Fair put on by The Animal Wellness Coalition of Louisville, Saving Sunny Incorporated and Louisville Metro Animal Services.

The event helps cut costs on pets' medical needs.

A Pets for Life Vet Clinic was on site for free wellness checks to the first 50 dogs.

The full service mobile clinic is decked out with x-ray machines, heartworm testing, dental exams and much more.

"We have two vets and two vet techs today and then also in the community center here at the Portland Community Center we are doing free dog food, free flea and tick prevention, and sign up for spay and neuter surgeries," Kelsey Westbrook said.

One Saturday a month Saving Sunny offers free and low cost pet resources to pet owners at the Portland Community Center.
