LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) –   There have been many spectacular freshmen to play at Kentucky over the years.

But as good as they all have been, not one of them had the type of afternoon Malik Monk had Saturday in Las Vegas against the Tar Heels.

Monk scored a UK freshman record 47 points including the go-ahead three pointer to help 6th ranked Kentucky top 7th ranked North Carolina 103-100.

Monk came out in Vegas on a mission, scoring 27 points in the first half on 10-16 shooting.  In the second half, he surpassed the previous UK freshman record of 35 with just over 11 minutes to go in the second half.

Monk finished the game on 18-28 shooting. He hit 8 three pointers in 12 attempts.

UK (10-1) is back in action Wednesday at Louisville.
