3rd Turn Brewery expands, becoming Oldham County's first brewery

CRESTWOOD, Ky. (WDRB) -- Now that the historically dry Oldham County is wet, and the new Lewis and Clark Bridge is making an easy path from Indiana into Kentucky, entrepreneurs are taking notice.

The Ohio River Bridges Project is predicted to bring 18,000 jobs to the Louisville area in the next three decades, and 3rd Turn is contributing to that number with its expansion into Oldham County.

A year after the brewery opened in Jeffersontown, it's opening a new location in Crestwood to become Oldham County’s first brewery. 3rd Turn will hire full-and part-time employees as business demands.

The brewery will be on four acres of land at 6300 Old Lagrange Road in Crestwood where the former Boone Gardiner used to be located. It’s within walking distance of Yew Dell Botanical Gardens and the Kentucky Artisan Distillery on the Bourbon Trail.

“I think this whole corridor is going to develop into something special for Oldham County,” Sen. (R) Ernie Harris said.

“While we certainly understand this is a tourism corridor, and while we certainly understand the bridges project is going to bring new folks into our area, our first thought is dig deep into the community," co-owner Greg Hayden said. "[We want to be] part of Oldham County, and we want this to be Oldham County's brewery first."

The brewery will have a focus on locally-sourced ingredients. Beers will be brewed, kegged and serviced on site in the taproom, which is expected to have 20 taps featuring a mix of local and regional beers.

“We cannot wait to have more outdoor space for beer gardens, to grow some of our own ingredients for beer and introduce the county to our locally and on-premise brewed ales,” Hayden said.

3rd Turn is scheduled to open in spring 2017.
