UPDATE | Victim identified after being hit, killed in Shively Monday night
Police say the man was seen sitting in a wheelchair in the roadway before he was hit.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who was hit by a car in Shively late Monday has died from his injuries.
That's according to Sgt. Josh Myers from the Shively Police Department.
He has been identified as 58-year-old Michael J. Smith. He died at the hospital at 2:55 Tuesday morning.
The unidentified victim, who was seen sitting in the street in a wheelchair, was hit by a car around 9:15 p.m. in the 2900 block of Seventh Street Road.
Police say the car's driver won't face any charges for hitting the man, but he was arrested on a weapons charge: possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Shively Police will need to close part of Seventh Street Road sometime today to complete their investigation, but Myers did not know when that will happen or how long it will take.
