Kentucky Humane Society not taking most dogs while damages repaired at main shelter

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local animal shelter is temporarily not accepting most dogs.

The Kentucky Humane Society says it cannot take in many dogs until the damages are repaired at its main shelter. A water pipe busted last week, leaving 11 kennels filled with debris and water damage.

The pipe is no longer leaking, but the shelter says it needs to replace drywall and insulation.

"It's real important that we get this fixed as soon as we can," said Andrea Blair with the Kentucky Humane Society. "For me, one of the worst things that can happen at Kentucky Humane is when we have to say no to animals who need us."

There isn't currently an estimate when the repairs will be finished, but workers hope it'll be done in about three weeks.

If you want to help, contact the KHS about fostering, adopting or donating.
