Time for some year-end Darts and Laurels.

My first Laurel goes to everyone in the community who joined with WDRB and our sponsors for this year's "Tis Better to Give" campaign. WDRB has been collecting toys at Christmastime to benefit the Home of the Innocents for several years now, and this year, thanks to your generosity, we set a record, collecting over 1,500 toys -- and the smiles on all the faces of the children receiving them was worth every bit of the effort.

Another Laurel goes to the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, to commemorate this week's completion of a 9.5 million dollar renovation of the airport's public areas. As Mayor Greg Fischer said, "Louisville International is really the front porch of our city," and these much-needed structural and cosmetic enhancements have definitely turned our front porch into a more welcoming one.

And finally, in the spirit of the season, let's make it all Laurels this time around, and give a much-deserved one to Joe Tolan, who is retiring next week from his post as President and CEO of Metro United Way. For the past fifteen years, Joe has guided this essential organization -- which typically collects about $30 million annually to benefit around 100 local nonprofit programs -- with a steady hand, and he's leaving it in extremely healthy condition for his successor. Joe is a great administrator and a true gentleman, and he'll be missed.

I'm Bill Lamb and that's my Point of View.
