LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A new event in downtown Louisville hopes to reinvent the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The “Lou Year’s Eve” celebration brought visitors to West Main Street.

The festivities kicked off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with family-friendly activities.

The event had a variety of activities from a parade to Kentucky's largest disco ball.

“Lou's Year's Eve” also worked to incorporate local artists and art venues.

A woman visiting from Tennessee said she was impressed by the event, especially in its first year.

"While we're in the area, we just thought, let’s go out for New Year's, see what the town does to celebrate. See what fun things are going on," Ashlyn Poplin said.

The event hopes to bring more people downtown to eat at restaurants and fill local hotels.

"Tourism brings money into the community so hopefully as it progresses and they get more years in more and more people will actually hear about it," said AJ Spaulding of Louisville.

Organizers are planning for the event to take place again next year.
