FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky House has elected its first Republican Speaker since 1921.

Jeff Hoover was nominated Tuesday morning to serve as Speaker for the Kentucky House.

Hoover was elected as Speaker of the House by acclamation.

Hoover then took an oath, which was administered by Circuit Judge and former Senate President David Williams.

After Hoover formally accepted his election as Kentucky House Speaker, he stated there are many challenges, but there are also opportunities. Hoover also stated the campaign is over and now is the time to govern.

"The challenge I make to each of us is never to become disagreeable," said the newly elected Hoover. "The question each of us must answer is what did we do for the people of Kentucky."

David Osborne, of Oldham County, was elected Tuesday as Speaker Pro Tem by acclamation.
