1 person dead in Orleans, Indiana, after dump truck hits building
The driver of a dump truck died Tuesday after crashing into a building just south of Orleans, Indiana.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The driver of a dump truck died Tuesday after crashing into a building south of Orleans, Indiana.
Orange County Coroner Aaron Kemple identified the driver as Charles C. Hounshell, 73, of Orleans.
Sheriff Josh Babcock said the truck, loaded with gravel, was headed north, left the side of the road and hit the front of the building about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday along State Road 37.
He said no one was in the building, which houses a tire shop.
Emergency crews were still working late Tuesday afternoon to remove the truck. Those efforts were complicated by the weight of the gravel load, the loss of the truck's front axle in the crash and ensuring that the building would not collapse, Babcock said.
