Louisville Zoo welcomes new giraffe

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Zoo is now home to a new giraffe!

According to a news release, the 18-month-old male Masai giraffe hails from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. He was born in Dec. 2015, and is named "Baridi."

"Baridi" means "frost" in Swahili.

"Baridi is currently on exhibit inside the giraffe house while he completes the standard 30-day quarantine for all-new animals," the news release states.

"As he continues to acclimate, there may be times when he is not available for exhibit. Once his quarantine and acclimation period is complete, Baridi will join 20-year-old Malaika in the giraffe yard outside."
