LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Lakes and rivers will be busy places this Fourth of July weekend, especially when some of the fastest boats in the world are there to show off.
The Madison Regatta will take to the water through Sunday.
Boats from the H-1 Unlimited and Hydroplane series are there, racing across the Ohio River.
Teams come from all over the country come to Madison to race and showcase their boats, some from as far away as Seattle.
They say it's the tradition and support of the community that draws people in.
"Just a great heritage in terms of hydroplane racing. One of the oldest events in the nation so I am excited to be here and we're excited to be competitive this weekend and looking forward to a good race," said Michael Brandt, who is taking part in the races.
In addition to the races, there was live music, lots of food, and a parade.
