Oscar Mayer switches up hot dog recipe
Oscar Mayer says it has found a way to make hot dogs a little healthier.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Oscar Mayer says it has found a way to make hot dogs a little healthier.
The brand's new recipe uses nitrite from celery juice instead of an artificial sodium. The preservative is used to give processed meats its pinkish color and helps prevent food poisoning.
Oscar Mayer says it changed the recipe because consumers have a growing desire for products containing natural ingredients, but critics say the change doesn't make much of a difference because it's still processed meat.
