LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of the suspects shot during an attempted robbery in June that left two people dead is released from the hospital.

Marlon Carpenter appeared in court on Wednesday morning.

Police say he is one of four suspects authorities believe was connected with a double murder that happened in the Russell neighborhood.

Carpenter pleaded not guilty to several charges including murder, robbery and tampering with evidence.

According to police, Carpenter, along with three other people, tried to rob Charles Cavanaugh Jr. at his apartment at 24th and Jefferson Streets. Investigators say the suspects exchanged gunfire with Cavanaugh.

Cavanaugh was shot and died at University Hospital, but police say he managed to shoot two of his attackers. Another suspect, Milik Lewis, was also shot and killed.

The other two suspects, Shalita Harris and Lyndia Yarnell were arrested last month and pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Carpenter is being held on a $200,000 bond at Louisville Metro Corrections.
