LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is expected in court Thursday morning, charged with shooting and killing a man in the Chickasaw neighborhood.

According to an arrest report, the shooting happened on the afternoon of Saturday, April 15, on Winnrose Way near S. 43rd Street.

Police say 34-year-old Donald E. Bell shot 33-year-old Damone Jones in the torso at that location. Bell then fled the scene.

Jones was dropped off at University Hospital in a red Chevy Impala by a friend a short time later. He died in surgery just after 7 p.m. that day.

Police initially did not know where the shooting took place, but their investigation eventually led them to identify Bell as a suspect. According to arrest reports, officers spotted Bell at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and tried to stop him, but he led them in a short car chase.

Police say that chase ended in the 6800 block of Beau Court, west of the intersection of Gagel Avenue and Manslick Road, where Bell drove into a yard where six children were playing.

He almost hit the children with his car, according to the arrest report. A mailbox was destroyed in the process.

Police say that upon his arrest, officers found a large bag of marijuana in his pocket.

Bell is charged with complicity to murder, complicity to tampering with physical evidence, complicity to possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, six counts of first degree wanton endangerment, first degree fleeing and evading police, possession of marijuana and third degree criminal mischief.

He is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
