LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A program that helps Louisville youth out of difficult home situations is getting an expansion.

YouthBuild Louisville broke ground on an expansion Thursday allowing it to double the number of kids it's helping. The new building going up in Smoketown marks Phase 2 of its expansion.

The program helps youth escape difficult situations at home or life on the streets by offering an education and job training.

The new building will house a fitness center, job center and a bigger kitchen.

"It's helped me in so many ways, helped me get my GED -- my certificate -- now getting ready to go into the carpentry union," said Levon Jackson, a YouthBuild Louisville participant. "It's helped me get my life back on track."

The expansion should be complete in Jan. 2018.
