LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky is No. 1 in the country when it comes to Hepatitis C.

The Kentucky Department for Public Health said more than 38,000 Kentuckians are currently infected with Hepatitis C, which is a disease of the liver that can cause cancer.

It's also extremely contagious, which is why KentuckyOne is urging people to get tested for the virus.

Treatment can include daily anti-viral pills or, in worst case scenarios, a liver transplant.
